I WOULD LIKE to start by saying that I am so far right that if I sneeze, I'll fall off the chair.
Yet too many times I see so called Christians that absolutely ignore the plight of the poor and cater to those who have worldly possessions even to the point of calling those who are involved with social issues, socialists and un-Christian.
All too often, we overlook verses such as this one: Luke 4:18 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised."
And we forget that JESUS came and healed the entire man. Matthew 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: Mat. 25: 35 For I was hungry, and ye gave me meal: I was thirsty and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Mat. 25: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick. and, ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Mat. 25: 37 Then shall the righteous answer him saying, lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? Or thirsty, and gave thee drink? Mat. 25; When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Mat. 25: 3') Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? Mat. 25: 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them. Verily I say unto you. In as much as ye have done it unto one of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
How can we say we love our neighbor and draw back our hand
when it comes to helping them physically of financially? We say we are here to
preach the Gospel but what good news allows one to starve while espousing it?
I believe we can not feed others the word of God who
are physically starving. We must cater to both needs.
